 | Pictured at to the left is one of many unique and beautiful decorative items found in the Portland Memorial Mausoleum Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum began as Portland Cremation Association in 1901, a venture of local businessmen who formed the Northwest’s first cremation association. The cornerstone was placed in the still-existing Sunset Chapel building on February 5, 1901. The first buildings constructed included the Chapel, Crematory and niches in the Rose Room. Construction continued on niche rooms underneath the Chapel, each named after flowers. In 1910, the newly renamed Portland Memorial began offering vaults, giving rise to a 70 year mausoleum construction project. In 1980, construction on the existing building was completed. The most recent vault wing was opened in the 1990’s and the newest niche banks were opened in 2003. Corridors were named for U.S. Presidents (eg. Jefferson, Washington) and sanctuary areas had religious themes (eg. Reverence, Peace). At its height, Portland Memorial Mausoleum is 8 stories; the property covers two and a half city blocks. |
 | The image to the left shows a weird photographic anomaly caught by our Junior Investigator,Justin. It would have quickly been dismissed as a digital double exposure were it not for the fact that a second camera in use at the time the image was taken was malfunctioning and heating up in the photographer's hand. The camera in question functioned normally both before and after that point in time. While the image captured here may indeed prove to be a "digital double", it bears more investigation. |
 | At left is a colorshifted version of the previous image showing the unique streaking of the image center. This type of
warping of the image may be caused by the auto focus mechanism of the digital camera attempting to focus on a particularly bright light source coupled with camera movement. However the edges of this image remain well focused and other phenomena were occurring at the same time.We will continue to investigate the possibilties, but for now the image remains non-classified. |
 | In the image to the left located at the top center portion of the image is what appears to be a bright blue dot in the ceiling fresco. When the image is enlarged to full screen one realizes that the item in question is actually a very bright blue orb. While orbs are often used by investigators to prove the presence of paranormal activity, they may also be dust particles, water drops, even snowflakes. What makes this orb stand out is its' vibrant blue coloration. |
 | This second bright blue orb was captured approximately an hour and 30 minutes after the first one,in a totally different part of the building than the first blue orb.The investigators were experiencing other forms of manifestation at the time of the photograph,These included the impression of a young boy who was playing "hide and seek" with his friends and two of our investigators being poked or touched in some manner. The EMF reader was also showing marked spikes at the time the image was taken. |
 | In the lower right hand corner of the image to the left is an unexplained black area or black mass. You will notice that the image appears to be slightly distorted on that side also. The mass may be an example of what are termed "shadow people" by investigators. At present further investigation is on going in an attempt to determine the nature of this mass. |
 | In the picture to the left NWPI Junior Investigator,Justin Robinson chases an EMF hotspot. The cause of this hotspot may be visible directly in front of him, where an orb is seen moving erratically in the image. While most orbs are only dust particles or can be explained by other natural occurences, such as raindrops, snowflakes or insects, this orb is unique in both its' physicality and its' actions. Carefully note the various positions of the orb as it moves along its' path of travel. It stops at least once and changes direction 2 or 3 times while subscribing a looping erractic path in the image. The orb also contains coloration and has density or mass, making it a good candidate for a "true orb". (Webmaster's Note:At the request of PMM,the names on the internments have been hidden out of respect for the deceased and their family's privacy. This will be done on any image with visible names on the internments.) |
