Fort Stevens,Oregon is located just a few miles south of Astoria on the Oregon coast.A military post dating back to the Civil War, it was until the late 1940's one of a pair of forts guarding the entrance to the Columbia,River. This long history has made Fort Stevens a great place to encounter paranormal activity.Pictured at left is an orb in motion captured at Battery,Russell in September,2005.
Pictured at the left is an ectoplasm captured at the first gun pit in Battery Russell.Notice the appearance of motion caused by the sweeping arch of the ecto. Also captured are several orbs. Some of these are certainly dust orbs, however there are two very bright orbs which give the indication of being something else.Often times when an ecto is photographed there are also orbs present in the images. Activity here includes auditory and visual. We captured several orbs and a very interesting ectoplasm during our investigation
The image at the left is a color-shifted version of the previous image which has been converted to a negative. The ectoplasmic mass is very apparent in this version of the image. At the left hand edge of the ectoplasm is what at first appeared to be the head and shoulders of a soldier complete with helmet. After careful inspection and review of registration photos taken in braod daylight at the same location, this was determined to be an effect of pixilation of shapes on the wall behind the ecto.
The image at left contains a single small orb located relatively close to the floor of the room. This image was taken in September,2005 by one of our investigators.Normally this type of photo would have been viewed and filed away as "possible but most likely dust orb",if it were not for the strange occurence which preceeded the photo by a few seconds. The investigators had just entered the building from the parking area at approximately 8:30 p.m.. They had determined that they were alone in the complex, when suddenly and quite loudly someone "moaned" in the ear of the investigator shooting this image.Since he was the only person in this particular room and could see the other two investigators in the next room,he was indeed stunned by the "moaning". Is the orb paranormal or just dust?....We cannot say for certain one way or the other but the story behind it's presence here, is just the type of activity that makes paranormal research so interesting.
The photo at the left is of a second much fainter ectoplasm captured inside one of the rooms at Battery Russell. The room in question is just beyond the area of the battery in which the first ectoplasm was captured. It is an enclosed area of the battery which was once used to house the gun crews while they were on duty at the battery. At first glance it was believed that this ectoplasm might be a trick of the light on the irregular coloration of the walls, subsequent review has caused the investigators to recategorize the image as an ectoplasm.
At left is a color shifted image of the original shown above. It is the first in a series of color shifts done by investigators in an attempt to determine the true nature of the object in the image. The two images just below are a second color shifted image of the same photo and an annotized photo showing the reason investigators believe this to be an ectoplasm. The area indicated by the red circle contains areas where the cloud-like object actually overlays a bend in the wall and objects in front of or beside the bend.It is clearly in front of the wall not part of it.

The image at left was taken on the main post at Fort Stevens. This area is about a mile away from Battery Russell and contains the very first Civil War batteries, Post Museum/Bookstore,several WWII batteries, the FDC,steam plant and remains of the main barracks area of the World War II era post. The image was taken about 1:30 in the afternoon and contains what was at first believed to be two solarizations. After careful inspection there is some evidence, however, to suggest that the object overlaying the tree trunk at the right of the image is a faint daytime ectoplasm.
The image to the left is a color shifted version of the previous image showing the outline of the object in the tree. The shape and overall appearance of the object in this color shifted version more clearly depict the object as something other than a solarization. The bright circular object in the tree branches to the upper left of the image is clearly a solarization and was used for comparison.
